Role Summary
The SOX Specialist will be responsible for designing, executing, and reporting on SOX compliance activities, ensuring internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) are robust, well-documented, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute SOX testing across key business processes and financial controls
- Evaluate design and operating effectiveness of internal controls (ITGC, ITAC, and process-level controls)
- Identify control gaps, deficiencies, and areas of risk; recommend remediation plans
- Prepare and review detailed compliance reports, walkthroughs, and testing documentation
- Coordinate with process owners, control owners, and external/internal auditors during SOX cycles
- Track remediation of identified deficiencies and ensure timely closure
- Support quarterly and annual SOX certification processes
- Stay updated on regulatory changes (SOX, COSO framework) and ensure organizational compliance
- Prepare management reports and dashboards summarizing SOX testing status and results
- Liaise with statutory auditors for SOX-related audit requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA) — Non-negotiable
- 6-10 years of relevant experience in SOX compliance, internal audit, or risk advisory
- Strong hands-on experience in SOX testing (design & operating effectiveness)
- Sound understanding of COSO framework and internal control principles
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with GRC tools is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with a Big 4 firm (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) in audit/SOX advisory roles strongly preferred
- Exposure to multinational or listed company environments
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) from a controls perspective
