Cloud hiring outran every adjacent stack, and the senior talent to run it still isn't there.

Cloud has quietly become one of the most demanding corners of India's hiring market, and the nature of that demand has changed. Cloud hiring rose about 19% year-on-year to March 2026, a second straight quarter of acceleration, driven now by cost, reliability and governance rather than raw provisioning. The constraint is supply: India's active cloud workforce covers only about 40% of the roles the market will need by 2028, and the shortage is sharpest at the senior architect and SRE levels. This edition maps where the demand sits, which skills clear the screen, and what they cost.

Key Findings

What the cloud data is actually saying.

Five findings worth surfacing this edition. The full report carries the role-by-role headcount, the city map and the salary bands behind them; these are the ones we'd flag in a leadership conversation.

01

Cloud outruns every adjacent stack.

Cloud is growing faster than the stacks around it. On our reading, cloud hiring rose about 19% year-on-year to March 2026, a second straight quarter of acceleration and the second highest growth of all sectors. Overall cloud demand is up about 24%, with more than 95,000 active listings by March 2026, and platform engineering is the breakout capability.

02

Platform engineering is the breakout.

Postings for internal developer platforms and golden-path tooling have risen sharply, up about 45% in a year on sub-segment hiring and up 132% from January 2025 to March 2026 on platform-engineering postings. FinOps has followed the same path from back-office housekeeping to a board-level concern: 47% of large enterprises now run a dedicated FinOps function, and 58% name cost overruns as their top cloud concern.

03

Supply covers only about 40%.

India's active cloud workforce, somewhere between 96,000 and 136,500 practitioners, covers only about 40% of the roles the market will need by 2028, when demand is likely to pass 300,000 cloud roles. The shortage bites hardest at the senior architect and SRE levels; most practitioners crossed into cloud-native work only from 2022, so the eight-to-twelve-year band that produces platform leads and principal SREs is structurally young and thin.

Pay runs high, and certifications lift it.

Cloud pay runs high and climbs steeply with seniority. Entry roles sit in the ₹6–11 LPA band, mid-level cloud and DevOps engineers in the low twenties, and senior leadership reaches from ₹70 LPA to over ₹1.3 crore for a VP or Head of Cloud Engineering. A certification lifts pay by 20 to 35% over an uncertified profile at the same level, widening at the architect and platform-lead tiers, with salary growth forecast at 10 to 15% a year through 2030.

05

Demand has spread beyond core IT.

Multi-cloud is now the default rather than the exception: around two-thirds of large India enterprises, on our reading 68%, run three or more providers, which turns platform engineering and FinOps into board-level concerns. Demand has spread well beyond core IT: BFSI and the GCCs are the most undersupplied as RBI cloud-outsourcing norms and DPDP rules drive architect and FinOps demand at once, while healthcare and pharma are hiring for the cloud for the first time on DPDP data-residency rules. Bengaluru sets the top pay benchmark, with Hyderabad and Pune close behind on GCC cloud investment.

Methodology & sources

This edition draws on Recruise's own cloud listings analysis and practitioner estimates (proprietary) for the sub-segment hiring growth, the salary bands, the cloud-hiring demand index and the total cloud headcount, corroborated with public sources: EY 'The Aldea of India' 2026, the NASSCOM 2030 tech-jobs and GCC growth outlook, and public India salary trackers, to May 2026. Sub-segment hiring growth and adoption shares are Recruise data; the VP or Head of Cloud Engineering band of ₹70–130+ LPA and the Principal Cloud Architect band of ₹50–90 LPA are Recruise placement data; the 20 to 35% cloud and certification premium is corroborated against public India salary trackers. The relative cloud-hiring demand index is Recruise data. Salary bands are indicative and vary with company size and location.
